Join celebrated ceramicist Tanya Gomez for a three-day masterclass focused on throwing and assembling larger ceramic pieces. Build confidence and refine your techniques for working on a bigger scale, with expert guidance on glazing and finishing large forms.
Course Overview
What You Can Expect
Day 1–2

Throw and assemble multiple forms using 2–5 kg of clay

Techniques for slapping, pulling walls, and assembling sections

Preparing slip and assessing clay consistency

Introduction to coiling and slabbing for larger forms
Day 3

Assembling larger sections of thrown pieces with a consideration of form
- Refinement of forms and finishing touches

Glazing techniques for large vessels
What You Will Learn

- Utilising coiling, and slabbing techniques on the wheel

Glazing large vessels with consistent results

Practical experience and confidence in large-scale pottery
What You Will Take Away
- A collection of notes outlining the techniques and processes covered
- Several completed large greenware or bisque fired pieces (these will be bisque fired after the course and ready to collect within 3-4 weeks, if you would like to glaze them and fire them in our gas kiln you can book onto one of our glazing sessions)
About the Teacher
Tanya Gomez is a ceramicist and educator with over twenty years of experience working with clay. She graduated in 2010 with a Master’s degree in Ceramics & Glass from the Royal College of Art and maintains an active studio practice, creating decorative porcelain vessels exhibited internationally. Her work is shown in the UK, with a recent exhibitions in Jingdezhen, China.
Alongside her practice, Tanya is an experienced teacher. She has led the Foundation Diploma Ceramics course at West Dean College, worked for many years as a ceramics technician at the University of Brighton, supporting students in realising their own creative visions. She also runs independent masterclasses across the UK, specialising in porcelain and large-scale throwing. Passionate about teaching, she is inspired by the individuality of each student and the shared exchange of knowledge through clay.
